This was an event that brought many groups together in the fight against medical errors and negligence. After a long period of time I finally was able to meet both Helen Haskell (Director of MAME) and Dianne Parker (Co-DIrector MAME) in person. Along with so many new friends and contacts this trip was one to remember for years to come. MAMA.Org will definitely attend this on an annual basis.
There is not one group that can make the differences needed in our broken health care system, but together we gain strength and a voice that speaks volume. Some of us have a different point of focus but are all a part of the attention needed.
A special thank you to Dianne Parker as this was a hard time for her as July 5th was Willie's one year Angel Day. She has made a great impact working with our SC government for the needed changes that will help so many future patients. You did a stunning job on this event.
To Helen Haskell, words can not describe this wonderful women. She tragically lost her fifteen year old son to medical negligence at a prominent SC hospital. SInce then she travels across our country and works with professionals and families to help bring awareness to others. Her efforts are an endless list and she is responsible for the Lewis Blackman Act in SC. Both Helen and Dianne give so much of themselves as they live with heartache from their loss. You are amazing women and I am proud to call you my friends, God bless you for all you have done and will do in the future.
Consumers Union, AARP, SCHA and so many others helped in making this an informative and educational event. So many of us are effected by medical errors and negligence and it was comforting to know that there are those out there that are starting to listen. I would like to personally thank O'Neale who is a bright young man doing his internship with AARP this summer. He and I talked for some time and I know he will be an asset to his career.
There are so many that I have not mentioned here but our meeting was a blessing and I will be adding these contacts in the near future to the website.
